FAQ - Sedona In-Person Workshop

I’ve never painted before, but this looks fun. Can I really paint like the paintings in your photos?

Yes, you can!! With the 15+ years of experience, Lovejoy has a very simple, and logical method to follow while allowing you the freedom to add your own style. Perfect for first-time & beginner painters. Lovejoy’s teaching style is very encouraging, you will impress yourself with what you create in 3 hours.

What kind of photo should I send?
The recommended subject for this workshop: Pet photo (most popular), or Animal/Wildlife Photo
Photos need to be clear, in-focus & good lighting. The best photo will be chosen & edited.
If you have a preference please let me know when you send the photos.

Can I paint more than 1 pet?
Yes, you can. It is recommended to paint 1 pet per canvas, you are welcome to paint 2 pets on 1 canvas, you will just need to paint a little faster for the in-person workshop.
**When you send in your pet photos, if both pets are in the same photo, no extra charge, if 2 photos need to be edited, then it’s an additional $10 (bring to class - cash or Venmo)

What if I do not have a pet?

Not a problem, If you don’t have a pet or have painted all your pets you can paint your favorite animal. Any wildlife photo will work.
**The only “animal” you can not paint in the in-person workshop is a human portrait.

What is the labyrinth? What is a walking meditation?

The Spiritual Labyrinth symbolizes a journey to a predetermined destination (such as a pilgrimage to a holy site or a walking meditation going in a circle)
There are various styles of labyrinths. The Spiritual Labyrinth you can walk during your workshop is one where you walk the maze/path to the center. Set your intention/gratitude and then walk the same path back out. It symbolizes going to your center and then back out, strengthening that the more you turn inward and trust your instincts the more you can find balance and peace on the exterior. The journey of creativity is very similar to walking the labyrinth, each artist must get in touch with their center and then create their art.
When you walk the labyrinth you are encouraged to walk slowly and focus on your breathing, or on a mantra or word. By walking in this manner it is a walking meditation.

The spiritual labyrinth at the studio, was built by Lovejoy’s mom over 20 years ago. There are years of wonderful healing energy in this labyrinth.

Are all supplies provided at the price?

For the in-person workshop (Sedona & San Diego): Yes - all supplies are provided in the price - You need to email your pet photos 48 hrs before the workshop

**For the online course (paintwithlovejoy.com): No- You will receive recommendations of supplies to purchase to paint at home.
*if you sign up for the bundle, your supplies are provided for the in-person workshop, you will need to purchase your own supplies for the online course

Can I bring food, or wine/beer?
Yes you are welcome to bring snacks, beverages and alcohol
Please bring everything you will need.

Will the instructor be painting a demo and teaching the whole class?
In this digital age, Lovejoy has utilized recorded videos & slideshows to teach people to paint worldwide. In this workshop, you get the added benefit of in-person support. This is a self-paced workshop, . Lovejoy will give an intro to the whole class and then will go around and help each student as needed.

Can my friend/family come & watch? 
Only paid students are allowed in class.

Can I bring my pet, it's an emotional support animal?
It is preferred that you leave your pets at home or safe in your hotel room so you can focus on painting.  This is my small home studio and I have 2 cats on the property.

Can kids attend the Workshop?
Kids 8-13 can attend the workshop with an adult

48-hour cancellation/refund policy?
You can get a partial refund or switch your date (up to 2 times) 48 hours prior to the date of your class. Please email lovejoycreations@gmail.com with your order number and the date/time you want to switch to.  I understand that emergencies (death, illness, car accident, etc..) happen, Please email lovejoycreations@gmail.com as soon as you can. 
*Refunds requested 14 days prior to the class are 80%, refunds requested 8-13 days are 50%, refunds requested 3-7 days prior to the class are 40%, and refunds requested 48 hours prior to the class are 0% .)

Do I need to take the online course before or after the in-person workshop?
The online course is a stand-alone option. It is recommended that you take the in-person workshop first, then sign up for the online course and paint as many pet portraits as you can in 30 days. You will see your own growth with each painting. Yet, if you feel like taking the online course prior to the in-person workshop, go ahead and do that, then Lovejoy can help you push your skills even more in the workshop. Basically the more you paint the more your skills will improve and the more fun you will have with painting.

How do I access the online Paint your pet bundle?

The Paint Your Pet Online bundle is hosted on PaintwithLovejoy.com. You will be emailed details on how to sign up for the Online Bundle. You will be given a code for 30 days of access and are encouraged to paint as many pets as you can in 30 days. You can sign up when you are ready to start. You must sign up within a year from the date of purchase.

Can I give the online code to a friend if I don’t want to use it?
Yes, you can gift the code to someone else. The code will only work once and it expires 1 year from the date of purchase, not the date you gift it.

What exactly can I expect from the online Paint your pet bundle?
This Online Bundle will walk you through all the steps to paint your pet, it’s a great refresher after the in-person workshop. Instruction is delivered via pre-recorded video and slideshows. You are welcome to go through the course as many times as you want. You will have 30 days of access to the bundle, info will be emailed to you.

Where do I purchase Supplies? How much is it going to cost?
Your supply cost will range from $35-$120. Pick something within your budget.
FYI- You can get away with cheaper brushes and canvas, but it is worthwhile to acquire quality acrylic paint
(recommended brand: Liquitex Basics, Arteza. )

You can purchase supplies on Amazon, Micheals store, Walmart, or local art store. Many of those places offer full kits. You will be utilizing your supplies multiple times.

Supplies you needed for the online workshop:
Supplies, photo prep, & photo transfer are covered in the “step1: PREP course”

1-Printed photo 8x10 or larger (simple B&W printer paper is best, you will be drawing on top of this)
2-Surface: canvas (stretched or panel)
8x10 in, or 9x12 in. or 11x14 in recommended
3-Brushes: 1 pointy and 2 square flat brushes
4-Acrylic paint: Bring what you have - recommended brand: Liquitex Basics, Arteza.
